On his official visit to Japan, this evening the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim and his delegation visited the Tokyo Skytree.Tokyo Skytree, with a height of 634 meters, was built in 2012 as the primary television and radio broadcasting tower, and is one of the most popular landmarks of Tokyo. It is the tallest structure in Japan and the second tallest in the world at the time of its completion.

Maldives and Japan have been cooperating on establishing Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial (ISDB-T) television network under Japanese grant assistance. The ISDB-T television network is a Japanese standard for the transmission of digital television over air. It will make information more accessible to residents and reduce information disparities among islands. The initiative will also advance speedy communication of emergency warning information for disaster preparedness.

Foreign Minister Dr. Asim was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, and H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Uvais, Ambassador-designate of Maldives to Japan, Mr. Ahmed Fazeel, Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Mr. Adam Hamid, First Secretary and Mr. Mohamed Thahseen, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Maldives in Japan.
