Foreign Minister Departs to attend the 45th OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh

The Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim has departed this evening to Dhaka, Bangladesh to attend the 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled to take place from 5 to 6 May 2018.

The theme of this years’ Session is “Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development”. Minister Asim will be delivering a statement and addressing the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting during the Session. As is practice, the 45th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers will also review conflict situations in parts of the Muslim world, will discuss issues of international peace and security, Islamophobia, countering terrorism and violent extremism, humanitarian situations, and the situation of Muslim communities.

Minister Asim will be received in Dhaka by Her Excellency Ms Shaan Shakir, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Minister is being accompanied from Male’ by Mr. Javed Faizal, Additional Secretary and Mr. Hussain Abdul Latheef Desk Officer.

The Maldives became a Member State of the OIC on 26 July 1976. Since joining the OIC in 1976, Maldives has participated in all regular Summits, Extraordinary Summits and the Foreign Ministers Meetings of the organization.
