The Maldives condemns the attacks by Israel on unarmed Palestinian civilians protesting the re-location of the US Embassy to Jerusalem
15 May 2018
The Maldives condemns in the strongest terms, the attacks by Israel on unarmed Palestinian civilians protesting the re-location of the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, which has caused loss of many innocent lives and injured many others near Gaza border.
In accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly, the Maldives considers East Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory and is of the view that the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the Palestinian lands with pre-1967 borders, co-existing side by side with Israel as the only viable solution to the question of Palestine.
The Maldives also reiterates its unwavering support to the Government and the people of the State of Palestine in its struggle for independence, sovereignty and freedom against Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories. The Maldives supports the efforts undertaken by the Palestinian leadership in pursuit of recognition by the international community, and its efforts to seek redress and justice through the international system.
