Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Ambassador Alice G. Wells called on His Excellency Ahmed Sareer, Foreign Secretary of the Republic of Maldives, this morning.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Sareer and Ambassador Wells discussed about the bilateral relations between the Maldives and United States of America, and ways of further strengthening the existing ties, including in areas such as counterterrorism, institutional reform, democracy consolidation and other areas of mutual benefit.

Ambassador Alice G. Wells is on a two-day official visit to the Maldives. She is scheduled to meet with His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President-elect, His Excellency Abdulla Maseeh, Speaker of the Parliament, as well as senior government officials including His Excellency Adam Shareef Umar, Minister of Defence and National Security and His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Sareer was accompanied by His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary, Bilateral, Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, Director and Ms. Fathimath Razana, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Wells was accompanied by Mr. Robert Hilton, Chargé d' Affaires of the US Embassy in Colombo, Mr. Anthony Renzulli, Chief of Political Section at the U.S Embassy in Colombo, and Mr. Patrick McEachern, Head of the U.S. State Department’s Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan Office.
