Her Excellency Ms Daniela Gitman, Ambassador at Large, Special Representative for Promoting Romania's candidacy to UNSC, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gitman congratulated the Minister on his appointment and discussed about enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest particularly in the education sector.

Ambassador further highlighted the candidacy of Romania to the United Nations Security Council for the term of 2020-2021, election which is scheduled to be held during the 73rd Session of UNGA in June 2019 and requested for the support of Maldives for their candidature.

Minister also noted the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and Romania and assured Ambassador Gitman that Maldives will continue working closely with Romania on ways to further strengthen the existing ties.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, Ms Fathimath Razana, Assistant Director and Ms Aishath Zeeshan Zuhuree, Senior Desk Officer.

Her Excellency Daniela Gitman was accompanied by Mr. Sorin Cîmpeanu, President of the National Council of Rectors, MP, Rector of the University of Agriculture in Bucharest, former Prime Minister and former Minister of Education, Mr. Marilen Pirtea, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies from the Romanian Parliament and Rector of the West University of Timisoara, Mr. Ioan Abrudan, Vice President of the National Council of Rectors and Rector of the University Transilvania in Brasov, Mr. Leonard Azamfirei, Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Targu Mures, Mrs. Cristina Jacota, 1st Secretary, Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
