Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia at the Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs of the United States Department of State, Mr. David Ranz, called on the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, the Minister and Deputy Secretary of State discussed about enhancing cooperation between both countries on potential priority areas such as public financial management, rule of law, human rights and good governance.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Ranz also expressed the U.S government’s readiness in working closely with the government of Maldives to implement the 100-day agenda of the current administration and briefed that the U.S. government is working with the relevant stakeholders to design programmes that complement the development and the reform agenda of the government. 
Minister Shahid also conveyed the government’s wish to establish contacts with academic institutions in the United States to sustain long term relationships for youth development.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, Director and Ms. Fathimath Razana, Assistant Director.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Ranz was accompanied by Mr. Robert Hilton, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S Embassy in Colombo, Mr. Jason Evans, Sri Lanka and Maldives Desk Officer at the U.S Department of State and Travis Hall, Political Officer at the U.S Embassy in Colombo.
