New Non-Resident Ambassador of Malaysia calls on Minister Shahid

His Excellency Tan Yang Thai, Non-Resident Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Maldives paid a courtesy call yesterday on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid.
At the meeting held in the Foreign Ministry, Minister Shahid, congratulated Ambassador Tan Yang on his appointment and expressed confidence that Ambassador would serve to reinforce the long standing brotherly relations between the two countries.
In this regard, Minister Shahid and Ambassador Tan Yang, discussed ways to further strengthen the existing friendly bilateral ties, especially in relation to bilateral trade cooperation, education, sports and developmental cooperation. Minister Shahid expressed the desire of the government to strengthen the cooperation in educational sector and to explore the opportunities for Maldivians to study under fully and partially funded scholarships.
Ambassador Tan Yang thanked the Government of Maldives for the hospitality extended to the Malaysian citizens residing in Maldives. Both also discussed consular matters relating to the Maldivians living in Malaysia and exchanged views on further simplifying the arrangements.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Ahmed Suzil, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives.
