Newly Appointed Spanish Ambassador calls on the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to the Maldives, José Ramón Barañano Fernández, called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, today.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and discussed ways to further strengthen the existing relations between both Maldives and Spain.
Minister Shahid conveyed the importance the Government attaches to promoting sustainable fisheries and sought the support of the European counterparts to promote the industry. Minister Shahid also expressed the desire of the Government to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a new level of engagement.
Ambassador Fernández assured his commitment to continue working closely with the Government of Maldives to assist in the priority areas of the Maldives and in further strengthening the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Spain.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Fathimath Razana, Assistant Director, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
