Newly Appointed Portugal Ambassador calls on the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to the Republic of Maldives, Carlos José de Pinho de Melo Pereira Marques, called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and discussed ways to further strengthen and enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries on priority areas such as fisheries and trade.
Minister Shahid also conveyed the importance the Government attaches to sustainable fisheries and expressed the government’s interest in exploring this area of cooperation with Portugal.
Ambassador Marques also expressed the Government of Portugal’s readiness in working closely with the Government of Maldives to assist in the priority areas of the Maldives.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Fathimath Razana, Assistant Director, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
