Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Sedat Önal calls on Foreign Secretary His Excellency Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, today.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Secretary Ghafoor welcomed Deputy Minister Önal discussed ways to further strengthen and enhance the existing relations between the two countries, both in the bilateral and the multilateral spheres.
Deputy Minister Önal conveyed greetings from His Excellency Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Foreign Minister Shahid and assured the Turkish Government’s commitment to strengthening existing cooperation and highlighted on future Turkish support for cooperation activities in the Maldives.
Foreign Secretary also expressed appreciation for the continuous support extended by the Turkish Government in contributing towards capacity development in the Maldives. Foreign Secretary further commended Turkey’s role in the international arena, in consolidating global peace and its leadership in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. He also noted that the Maldives would greatly benefit from increased trade investments from Turkey, and expressed hope to continue to cooperate and share views on key bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual concern.
Foreign Secretary was accompanied at the meeting by Ms. Shiuneen Rasheed, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Aishath Zeeshan Zuhuree, Senior Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Minister Önal was accompanied by Ismail Hilmy, Honorary Consul-General of Turkey in Maldives, Mrs. Demet Çapanoğlu Şekercioğlu, Deputy Director General, and Fatih Gündoğlu, Third Secretary, of the Ministry of Foreign Affair of Turkey.
