Foreign Minister Shahid sends message of Congratulations to the new Secretary General of SAARC

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of congratulations to the new Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) His Excellency Esala Ruwan Weerakoon on assuming his duties.

The Message reads as follows

Excellency,

It gives me great pleasure to extend to Your Excellency my warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes as you assume your duties as the Secretary General of SAARC.
SAARC remains the region’s most important intergovernmental platform, built on the hopes and aspirations of the people of South Asia. At a time when SAARC is faced with innumerable challenges, I am confident that your able leadership and guidance will be invaluable in steering the Organization to attain its goals.
I also take this opportunity to assure you that the Government of Maldives will provide its full support in your efforts.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and my best wishes for your good health, success, and for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of South Asia.
