Foreign Minister Shahid holds a telephone conversation with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid had a telephone conversation with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Wakamiya Kenji, this morning.Minister Shahid commended Japan Government’s efforts and measures taken to contain and control the virus. Both Ministers discussed the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic around the globe.Minister Shahid briefed State Minister Wakamiya, on the impact of COVID-19 in the Maldives, the impact on the Maldivian economy, and the measures being taken to prevent the spread of the virus. Minister Shahid thanked the Government of Japan for the timely assistance provided to the Maldives in February this year in support of Maldives efforts to respond to COVID-19.State Minister Wakamiya informed Minister Shahid that the Government of Japan has decided to provide financial support to UNICEF Maldives and the Maldives Red Crescent in their efforts in supporting the Government’s efforts in controlling and containing COVID-19.Minister Shahid thanked State Minister Wakamiya for the financial support and expressed appreciation to the Government and the people of Japan for the generosity shown towards the Maldives.Both Ministers stressed on the need for joint efforts in responding to COVID-19.ENDS
