Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid holds a telephone conversation with Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of UK, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid spoke with the Minister of State for Commonwealth and South Asia at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom, Lord Ahmed of Wimbledon over the telephone, this afternoon.

The two Ministers discussed the pressing challenges faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in both Maldives and the United Kingdom.

Minister Shahid briefed Lord Ahmad on the impact of virus in the Maldives and the unprecedented measures taken by the Government of Maldives to contain the virus. Minister Shahid noted, in particular, the economic impacts of the pandemic and the importance of international support for the Maldives in the economic recovery.   

Both Ministers also agreed to continue expanding existing cooperation in the bilateral agenda.
