Foreign Minister Shahid holds a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister of Republic of Indonesia on the COVID-19 Pandemic

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Her Excellency Retno Lestari Pransari Marsudi, this morning.
During the telephone conversation, Minister Shahid briefed Minister Marsudi on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives and the measures implemented to curb the spread of the virus including the Maldivian health sector's ability to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Shahid highlighted that Maldives, as a small island developing state, is highly dependent on tourism and noted the negative impact that the pandemic has had on the economy of the Maldives. Minister Shahid also requested for assistance from the Government of Indonesia in combating the pandemic.
Foreign Minister Shahid thanked the Government of Indonesia for the support and assistance provided to the Government of Maldives in repatriating Maldivian citizens from Indonesia.
Both Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and collaboration in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, both bilaterally and internationally.
