Minister Shahid holds a telephone conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid held a telephone conversation with Secretary of State of the United States of America, Michael Richard Pompeo, today.
During the telephone conversation, Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the U.S. Government for the continued assistance provided to combat the on-going COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives. Minister Shahid specially noted the recently announced 2 million dollar grant aid and other forms of frontline support facilitated by the U.S. Government
The Foreign Minister and the Secretary of State also held discussions on enhancing the existing strong ties between both the countries as well as on issues of mutual interest. Secretary Pompeo also reassured the U.S Government’s commitment to continue working with the Government of Maldives to overcome the economic and financial consequences that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both the Foreign Minister and the Secretary of State further assured their commitment to increasing cooperation between the two countries in various areas that are of mutual benefit.
