Foreign Minister Shahid pays a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina today.

During the call held at Ganabhaban, Minister Shahid conveyed warm greetings from His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the Prime Minister, and thanked the Government of Bangladesh for the generous hospitality extended to the Minister and delegation.

Minister Shahid felicitated the Prime Minister on the celebration of the birth centenary of her late father, and the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh this year.

Minister Shahid expressed appreciation to the Government of Bangladesh for its continued support to the Maldives, and especially for the assistance extended in addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Minister Shahid reaffirmed Maldives’ support to Bangladesh on issues of mutual concern including the plight of the Rohingya people and climate change. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that the Government of Bangladesh will continue to work closely with the Government of Maldives to strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Minister Shahid was accompanied by H.E. Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Foreign Secretary of Maldives and H. E. Ms Shiruzimath Sameer, High Commissioner of Maldives to Bangladesh.
