Embassy of the Maldives in Brussels in collaboration with Hub Brussels, organized a webinar entitled “Investment in the Maldives”, facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture as well as the Ministry of Economic Development and Maldives Fund Management Corporation today.

The Government agencies provided an overview of Maldives post-Covid economic recovery priorities and investment opportunities from their respective sectors. With participation close to 90 economic sector specialists and potential investors based in EU Countries, the webinar provided an important platform to accelerate commercial diplomacy of the Maldives with the Kingdom of Belgium, Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The webinar also supports the government’s continued initiatives to strengthen trade and investment, provide information to foreign investors, and facilitate networking between relevant government agencies and foreign investors.

As the Keynote Speaker of the event, the Vice President of European Investment Bank, Mr. Christian Kettel Thomsen reiterated the continued assistance from the EIB to the Maldives in his keynote address. Also speaking at the event was the Minister of Tourism of the Maldives, H.E. Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, who highlighted the Government's priority to build better, stronger, and greener in moving forward. Speaking at the event, Minister of Finance H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Ameer also thanked the European Investment Bank and the Kingdom of Belgium for their assistance extended to the government of Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the webinar, Foreign Secretary H.E. Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed emphasized that Embassy in Brussels remains eager to help investors to explore how to contribute to our long-standing economic and commercial relationship and thanked H.E. Ambassador Hassan Sobir, and his dynamic team for organizing this timely and important webinar.
