Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives calls on Minister of Foreign Affairs

The new Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Her Excellency Takeuchi Midori called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid, today. Ambassador Takechi presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on 20 January 2022.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon, Foreign Minister Shahid congratulated and welcomed the Ambassador and expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and solidarity between the two countries.

Highlighting the close partnership and friendship between the two nations, Minister Shahid thanked Japan for being a close friend and ally of the Maldives, especially for the support extended to the Maldives during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Ambassador Takeuchi thanked Minister for the warm welcome, and conveyed her commitment to working closely with the Government and people of the Maldives in continuing the efforts to enhance the bilateral relation between both countries in areas of mutual interest. Both the Minister and Ambassador concurred to cooperate towards further consolidation of ties, as 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Japan.

Minister was accompanied by Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Foreign Secretary and Mohamed Shujau, Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
