Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan H.E Mr. Taro Kono departs from Maldives after concluding his official visit

During his visit, His Excellency Mr. Kono paid a Courtesy Call on the President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and held bilateral talks with his counterpart His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, both countries reviewed their cooperation and agreed to work together to further strengthen and enhance the cordial relations between the two countries. In this regard, the two Ministers decided to convene an annual “Policy Dialogue” between the two countries aimed at transforming the relationship to a more mutually beneficial strategic partnership. The Policy Dialogue will cover political, economic and technical cooperation as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

This is the first visit to Maldives by a Japanese Foreign Minister.

Minister H.E Dr. Mohamed Asim also hosted an official luncheon in honour of Minister Kono and his delegation.
