Her Excellency Dr. Aishath Shiham, Minister of Education, will address the High-Level Segment of the Session tomorrow. The Maldives delegation also includes Minister of Gender and Family, Her Excellency Zenysha Shaheed Zaki and Her Excellency Dr Hala Hameed, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva. During this visit, Ministers will also meet senior officials of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and other high level dignitaries visiting Geneva for the session. 

The Maldives will continue to contribute to the panel discussions and interactive dialogues, as well as participate at the discussions of some key resolutions during the session.

In line with its core priorities at the UN Human Rights Council, the Maldives will also co-sponsor resolutions, including the human rights situation of Syrian Arab Republic and OIC led resolutions on the human rights situation of Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. The Maldives will also actively participate at the negotiations of the several resolutions including the rights of persons with disabilities, rights of the child, among other resolutions, which are some of the priorities for the Maldives at the Council.

The Maldives has served two consecutive terms as a voting member of the Human Rights Council, from 2011 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2016.

The Maldives delegation also includes Mr. Amin Javed Faizal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Aminath Namza, Head of Foreign Relations, Ministry of Education, and Ms Aishath Shahula, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
