Maldives and the US sign Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) and MoU on the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program

A Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Fulbright Academic Exchange Program has been signed between the Maldives and the United States of America today.
During a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid signed the MoU on Fulbright Exchange Academic Program on behalf of the Government of the Maldives and the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives Alaina Teplitz signed on behalf of Government of the United States. This was followed by the signing of the DOAG by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel on behalf of the Government of the Maldives and USAID Mission Director Reed Aeschliman on behalf of the US Agency for International Development.
Through the DOAG, the US Government commits USD 3 million dollars to the Maldives to improve the resilience of individuals and communities to drive inclusive and sustainable development.
The MoU on Fulbright Academic Exchange Program aims to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the Maldives and the United States through wider exchange of knowledge through educational activities. This Agreement extended the Fulbright Exchange Programme Agreement which was first signed in 2003, for a further 5 years.
The signing ceremony of the DOAG and the MoU was witnessed by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from the Embassy of the United States of America in Colombo.
