The new Ambassador of Maldives to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Shiaan, has presented his Letter of Credence to the King of the Netherlands, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. The ceremony took place today, at the Noordeinde Palace in Den Haag.

His Majesty welcomed Ambassador Shiaan, expressing pleasure to receive the new Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Ambassador Shiaan thanked His Majesty the King for the audience and conveyed the greetings and good wishes from H. E. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to King Willem-Alexander.

During the private audience following the credential ceremony, Ambassador Shiaan expressed that it was a great honour to be appointed as the first Ambassador of Maldives to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and Ambassador Shiaan also discussed issues of mutual interest such as climate change, tourism and trade.

King Willem-Alexander stated that he was confident that the appointment of Ambassador Shiaan will rejuvenate and strengthen the existing close relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Shiaan assured King Willem-Alexander of his commitment to work closely with the Netherlands Government to foster closer collaboration and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Shiaan was accompanied by Ms. Fathimath Ghina, Counsellor at the Embassy of Maldives in Belgium.
